Objectives

a) An introduction to fundamentals of chemical and biochemical engineering to be applied to describe industrial and environmental bioprocesses, through mass and energy balances and kinetics and thermodynamic expressionsb) Based on these fundamentals, description and preliminary design of- Different types of biological reactors- Role of mass transfer in biological reactors, with main relerence to oxygen supply- Main unit operation for up-stream and down-stream rocessing (brief outline)c) Examples of applications in industrial and/or environmental bioprocesses
