Objectives

Fermentation biotechnology concerns the use of microorganisms (yeast, muld, bacteria) or cellular components (enzymes), to alter living or non-living materials for the production of knowledge, goods and services.
Some central themes will be the knowledge of industrial fermentation, microbial metabolic engeneering, the understanding and discussion of scientific papers

Cultivation of microorganisms, Microbial nutrition, industrial media and raw materials. Microbial growth conditions. The collections of microorganisms and strain preservation. Control and regulation of microbial metabolism. The mathematical expression of microbial growth and production of metabolites. Mode of cultivation (batch, fed-batch, continuous). Isolation and improving of industrial strains. Structure of bioreactors. Industrial production of: ethanol, butanol, organic acids, amino acids, antibiotics. Bioconversion, cells and immobilized enzymes, vitamin production. Metabolic engineering. Enzymes. Heterologous protein production
