This course is designed to introduce students to Cinema Studies, exploring in film history origins, major developments, different movements and experiences, works, most important persons, and drawing on an understanding of the industrial and aesthetic patterns that, in the twentieth century culture, have shaped, and are in turn, shaped by cinema. The purposes of this course are also: to create awareness of film as a technology, language and institution,audiovisual medium side by side of several aesthetical, social, and cultural practices; to improve the familiarity with bibliographic and filmographis sources; to develop historical, theoretical, methodological skills to film analysis and research activity.
