Course objectives

At the end of the course the student should know topics of descriptive statistics, elements of probability, statistical methods for qualitative and quantitative data, multivariate analysis, sensitivity, specificity, predictive value.

Course program
Upon completion of the course the student must know: the main notions concerning descriptive statistics, the inferential statistics, the various models of epidemiological study, the criteria used to construct and validate a diagnostic test. At the end of the course the student will have acquired skills that will allow him to be able to perform: setting up scientific research define the problem under study. identify the phenomenon that is the object of the study and measure it. collect data relating to the phenomenon, catalog them, graphically represent them and synthesize them numerically. know how to interpret the data relating to statistical significance. to recognize the various models of epidemiological study to know how to evaluate the effectiveness of one treatment over another or to assess the causal link between a hypothetical disease and its risk factor. know how to interpret the data obtained from scientific publications and try to adapt them and bring them back to their clinical reality according to the guidelines related to Evidence Based Medicine
