Crash course on Python
 

Brief course description:

This is a hands-on course. Each student is supposed to bring his/her laptop in class. An electric plug with type C or type F standard is available on each seat. Wi-fi connection should be provided but a bringing a rescue device like a personal hotspot from a personal cellular phone is warmly encouraged.

In order to join the course it's mandatory to successfully pass the Verifica dei Requisiti after paying the 10 euros tax
All admitted students will be contacted via e-mail by September 13th with all details on location and schedule
The course is optional and won't give you any credit or grade, however we highly recommend attendance to students that have little coding experience,

Crash course in Probability and Statistics
 

Brief course description:

 

The course covers some essential notions of descriptive statistics, probability and inferential statistics needed to have a less steep learning curve in approaching statistical courses at Master level. Main topics include: basics of descriptive statistics, types of data, frequency tables, graphs, measures of position, measures of variability, measures of association, linear regression, basics of probability, random variables, main discrete distributions, main continuous distributions, moments, standardization, basics of inferential statistics, point estimation, interval estimation, hypothesis testing. The course combines the theory with a more practical approach, with examples and the analysis of data from the real world.

Suggested Textbook:

Agresti, Franklin and Klingenberg (2017), Statistics: The Art and Science of Learning From Data, Pearson.

The Crash course :: Probability and Statistics is composed of lectures and tutorials, concluding with a short test. Successfully completing the test will be credited as a bonus within the Data Science mandatory course on Statistical Methods for Data Science.
