DAVIDE PIERANGELI

Davide Pierangeli is Associate Professor of Experimental Physics of Matter and Applications. His research merges optics with concepts from nonlinear and complex systems toward novel applications in photonic and computing technologies. He earned his PhD in Physics in 2017 from Sapienza University. He was BE-FOR-ERC research fellow at Sapienza and Senior Researcher at the Institute for Complex Systems of the CNR. He was awarded the "Panizza and Galimberti" Prize in Photonics by the Italian Physical Society for his important contributions to nonlinear optics, including the first observation of Parisi’s replica symmetry breaking in optical waves. He is the Principal Investigator of the ERC Starting Grant 2024 project LOOP "Optical polarization for ultrafast computing" granted by the European Research Council. He leads the Optical Computing group at the Department of Physics. Current research in his laboratory focuses on spatial light modulation and optical polarization in nonlinear and complex media to create unconventional computers.
