SHORT BIOGRAPHY

Fabiano Bini PhD, Associate Professor in Bioengineering at the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, “Sapienza” University of Rome. He is member of the Faculty Executive Committee and of the Department. Responsible for national agreements for didactic-scientific collaborations and scientific co-supervisor of an international agreement with a prestigious university. He is also engaged as a principal investigator and participant in national research projects. He acquired the basic laboratory and experimental skills in the field of Medical Measurements, Image Quality Control for medical devices and micro-mechanical testing of human trabecular bone tissue. During these years, he acquired the basic laboratory and experimental skills, mainly in the field of Medical Measurements and Applications, Measurement and quality control for medical products, Medical and Instrumentation uncertainty and Sensors for medical systems. Moreover, since he was deeply interested in experimental investigation in Medical Array Transducer and related researches and investigations. During these years, he acquired the basic laboratory skills, mainly in the field of calibration procedure for performance evaluation of clinical Pulsed Doppler Systems. Indeed, he was involved in projects on the systematic review and meta-analysis of the main technical innovations in the field of colorectal surgery as laparoscopic and robotic techniques. Furthermore, he focused his research activity on the analysis of tissue surrounding thyroid nodules by ultrasound digital images. His current research includes 3D Diffusion model of nanostructured apatite/collagen porosity, 3D Finite element model of osteoarthritis in the Human Femur Head and 3D Tissue modelling for Mixed Reality applied in Surgical Planning and Training. From the point of view of the applications, he focused on the rehabilitation engineering, with regard to the recovery mechanisms and alterations in terms of stability and harmony of the step. Reviewer for important international journals and congresses. He was editorial board membership of SM Journal of Nanotechnology and Nanomedicine (2015-2017). He is currently editorial board membership of BioMed Research International (sections Orthopedics; Surgery; Rehabilitation); Diagnostics (section for Medical Imaging and Theranostics); Nature Scientific Reports (section Biomedical Engineering); Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology (section Biomechanics) and Bioengineering (section Biomedical Engineering and Biomaterials). He was Guest Editor for Special Issue Applications of 3D Printing Technology in Orthopedic Treatment (Lead Guest Editor Xiaojun Duan) and for Special Issue Big Data for Biomedical Research (Lead Guest Editor Zhaohui Liang). In addition, he was Guest Editor of Special Issue Technological Innovations and Image Analysis: The Need of Standardized Guidelines for the Clinical Translation of Radiomics Studies. Likewise he was Guest Editor of Special Issue Advanced Strategies in 3D Bioprinting for Disease Modelling. He chaired the Special Session “Novel Techniques in Medical Ultrasound” at 2018 IEEE International Symposium on Medical Measurements and Applications held in Rome (Italy). He was the recipient of grant FFABR, awards of the Italian of Ministry of Education, University and Research in recognition of his outstanding research activity in Bioengineering.
