Definition and role of the discipline – Difference between macroscopic, microscopic, and molecular anatomy Cell damage and cell death Causes of cell damage (hypoxia, toxins, infections) – Apoptosis and necrosis - Clinical implications and typical findings --- Inflammation and tissue repair Acute and chronic inflammation – Healing and scarring processes – Neoplasms: basic concepts Difference between benign and malignant tumors – Concepts of grading and staging Pathological anatomy of the main organs: lung, liver, kidney, heart, CNS – Practical examples: pulmonary embolism, myocardial infarction, cirrhosis – Samples and preparations: management and transport (1h)* - Types of samples (biopsies, surgical specimens, cytological specimens) – Histological and cytological reports (1h)* - How to read a histological report – Cytological reports (Pap tests, fine needle aspirates) – Overview of histology, immunohistochemistry, and molecular biology
