The Genetics module provides in-depth coverage of the fundamental principles of hereditary trait transmission, with an approach focused on understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying heredity. Elements of classical formal genetics are addressed, from Mendelian laws to their extensions, with particular attention to the analysis of human genetic diseases of clinical relevance for the biomedical laboratory technician. The educational pathway integrates the study of genetic recombination mechanisms with their application in the interpretation of pedigrees and in understanding the genetic basis of various inherited pathologies. The learning approach adopted by students during the Genetics module is based on the constructivism method. In brief, the growth of knowledge of topics covered by the instructor during the course derives from the student's processing of new concepts presented, which will be connected to information that has been previously "constructed." In other words, prior knowledge and experiences will serve the student to shape subsequent understanding in order to accept, process, and construct new concepts. This approach is particularly effective in the teaching unit dedicated to pedigrees, where through the flipped classroom methodology students actively apply the theoretical principles acquired to the analysis of real clinical cases, developing problem-solving skills essential for professional practice.
Prerequisites
