Learning Objectives
By the end of the course, students will be able to recognize the main medical, surgical, and toxicological emergencies.
The 20-hour Internal Medicine First Aid module will cover the following topics, supported by slides and videos:
Program
1) Transient loss of consciousness, syncope, postural instability, and falls with traumatic consequences, especially in frail individuals.
2) Primary and secondary osteoporosis as conditions predisposing to bone fractures.
3) Acute respiratory failure; the Heimlich maneuver, cardiopulmonary resuscitation;
4) Acute myocardial infarction and ischemic heart disease;
5) Stroke;
6) Comas, with special attention to diabetic ketoacidosis;
7) Acute renal failure;
8) Pulmonary thromboembolism
