International experiences
Sapienza University offers numerous opportunities for study, research, and internships abroad – in Europe and beyond – for short stays or longer periods, thesis research abroad, and much more.
Study Periods in European Countries: Erasmus+
Erasmus+ promotes transnational cooperation between higher education institutions; it funds student mobility for study purposes (SMS) in all disciplines and levels of education (including PhD) and supports the academic recognition of studies within the European Higher Education Area.
The Erasmus+ program allows students to attend courses and pass exams abroad, with full academic recognition, or to carry out research for their thesis or doctoral dissertation.

Internships in European Countries: Erasmus+ Traineeship
Erasmus+ traineeship mobility allows students to carry out internships at companies, training centers, and research institutions based in one of the participating countries.
The program enables full-time internships abroad, recognized as an integral part of the academic curriculum.
Internships can also be carried out after graduation, provided the selection takes place before the degree is awarded.
The mobility period for internships is added to the Erasmus study period, up to the maximum limit allowed by the program.

Study Periods in Non-EU Countries: Overseas Program
Thanks to funding from the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) and its own resources, Sapienza offers students the opportunity each year to spend a study period abroad – for exams or thesis research – at one of over 200 non-EU institutions with which bilateral agreements are in place.
The Overseas mobility program provides a monthly grant of €700 net for the first 5 months and €500 net starting from the 6th month.
The stay abroad must be continuous and last no less than 90 days and no more than two consecutive semesters.
The grant can only be awarded once per academic cycle and cannot be combined with other Sapienza mobility contributions.

Study or Research Periods in Non-EU Countries: Erasmus+ KA171 International Credit Mobility (ICM)
The Erasmus+ ICM program, funded by the European Commission, allows students and teaching staff to spend a period abroad for study, thesis research, teaching, or training in non-EU countries.
It includes a scholarship and travel cost coverage.
All academic activities completed abroad will be recognized upon return by the designated Sapienza faculty members, as defined in the Learning Agreement.
Student mobility can last from a minimum of 3 to a maximum of 6 months (potentially extendable up to 12 months, with the final 6 months without a grant – "Zero-EU Grant" option).
The ICM grant also supports PhD-level research mobility for the same duration.
Travel expenses are calculated using the Distance Calculator, based on the distance between the sending and receiving universities.

The Degree Program promotes the internationalization of teaching, research, and practical/professional training experiences both during the course of study and for graduates within 18 months of obtaining their degree, in line with the guidelines of the Sapienza University.
The Degree Program has established international exchange agreements with Midwifery programs in Belgium (Brussels, Haute École Léonard de Vinci), Poland (Katowice, Medical University of Silesia), France (Marseille, Aix-Marseille Université), and the United Kingdom (University of Nottingham) as part of Sapienza's international exchange initiatives, with the aim of facilitating students in undertaking a period of study abroad.
