Course objectives

At the end of the course the student must have acquired the basic knowledge of the etiopathogenesis and anatomic pathology of human diseases, with special reference to the dental field. At the end of the course the student must be able to recognize the macroscopic and microscopic aspects of the most frequent oral diseases.

Program - Frequency - Exams

Course program
Anatomic pathology: laboratory, methodologies and diagnostic paths. Neoplastic and non-neoplastic diseases of the oral cavity: vesiculo-bullous lesions; ulcerative lesions; white lesions; blue-red lesions; pigmented lesions; verrucous-papillary lesions. Oral carcinoma: carcinogenesis, risk factors, prevention, early diagnosis, clinical and pathological features. At the beginning of the course, about 2 hours are dedicated to the general aspects of Anatomic Pathology. The rest of the course is dedicated to the specific topics included in the program.
Prerequisites
In order to understand the content of the course and to achieve the expected learning outcomes, at the beginning of the didactic activity the student must know the basic notions of normal Anatomy and Histology and of General Pathology, with particular reference to the oral cavity. The prerequisites are the exams of the first semester.

Teaching mode
The teacher delivers lectures with traditional methods, with audiovisual aids and according to the class schedule reported in the GOMP Aule/Orari System and published on the website of the School.
Frequency
According to the Art. 5 of the Regulations of the Dental Hygiene School, the student is required to attend educational activities, formal, non-formal, vocational. The frequency is checked by the teachers through the student's signature and the updated register provided by the Academic Office, as established by CCLID. The certificate of participation in the mandatory didactic activities of the course is required for the student to be admitted to the final test.
Exam mode
To pass the exam, the student has to score not less than 18/30 grade in each module. The student must demonstrate that he/she has acquired sufficient knowledge of the topics discussed during the course. To achieve a score of 30/30 cum laude, the student must demonstrate that he/she has acquired excellent knowledge of all the topics of the course, being able to link them in a logical and consistent way. The evaluation consists in written and oral tests. All the tests contribute to the final vote.
Bibliography
Scientific articles on topics included in the program will be recommended for integrative purposes to frontal lessons and adopted texts.
