DENTAL HYGIENE INTERNSHIP I
Course objectives
Upon completion of the course the student must know the information related to the instruments and techniques for professional oral hygiene (probes, curettes and sharpening, scalers, polishing of dental elements) and ergonomics of the dental unit with work positions. At the completion of the course the student must know how to provide education on the various methods of oral hygiene and on the use of diagnostic tools suitable for highlighting bacterial plaque and dental patina motivating the need for periodic clinical checks.

1. Dental hygienist skills
2. Know and apply the operator-patient positions;
3. Know and illustrate periodontal anatomy
4. Evaluation of dental charting and dental examination
5. Illustrate the purposes of the periodontal examination
6. Describe the instruments and techniques used
7. Evaluate which factors can influence the examination
8. Classify the patient based on the stage and grade of periodontal disease
9. Know the phases of non-surgical etiological therapy
10. Know the phases of home hygiene therapy
11. Know the phases of maintenance therapy
Prerequisites
The student must possess the basic knowledge for the planning of the training that is based on a model of integration between frontal teaching, pre-clinical activity and clinical activity.
