Course program
General aspects of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. Cell-environment interactions. Cell junctions, membrane receptors, intracellular receptors. The eukaryotic cell membrane system and transmembrane transport mechanisms. Mechanisms of bacterial and viral penetration into cells. Microorganisms: bacteria and viruses. Notes on bacterial genetics. Plasmids: types and function (R, F, and metabolic plasmids). Notes on their use in molecular biology. Overview of the mechanisms of genetic information utilization in eukaryotic cells. Regulation of gene expression. Classification of bacteria. The bacterial cell wall and Gram staining. The saprophytic bacterial flora of the ear. The bacterial strains most relevant to the onset of human pathologies, with particular reference to the ear. Steptococcus, Haemophilus, Moraxella, Pseudomonas, Staphylococcus, Escherichia coli, Proteus. Viruses and the ear (influenza or parainfluenza viruses, shingles, mumps, COVID-19).
