Course Program
The first part of the course will provide an introduction to clinical psychology, with a focus on the main theoretical paradigms that have shaped its development. The following topics will be presented and discussed:
* Freud’s psychoanalytic paradigm;
* attachment theory;
* behaviorism;
* cognitivism;
* the integrated cognitive-behavioral approach;
* the systemic-family approach;
* communication as a core element in psychopathology and psychotherapy;
* clinical neuroscience.
The second part of the course will focus on the most prevalent clinical conditions in the general population, according to the DSM-5 diagnostic framework. In particular, the course will address:
* major anxiety disorders;
* the main eating disorders (Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa);
* the most common mood disorders, including Major Depressive Disorder, Postpartum Depression, and Bipolar Disorder.
The third and final part of the course will be devoted to research methodology in clinical psychology, with an emphasis on the main research designs and their application to the study of clinical phenomena.
Prerequisites
Critical comprehension skills, and a good level of motivation to learn and work individually and in groups.

The reference teaching material consists of the collection of slides, articles, and texts published in the e-learning platform.

- Emotions and cognitive skills throughout life; the importance of self-regulation;
- Psychological aspects of professional relationships: nurse-patient, nurse-doctor, nurse-patient families;
- Techniques to reduce work-related stress and improve well-being;
_ Psychological interventions and psychotherapies.
Lesson mode
The course mainly makes use of frontal lessons interspersed with some work activities in small groups.
