Health concept; evolution of the concept towards health promotion. General safety considerations; epidemiological data on cases of suspected malpractice, the concept of risk, occupational risks, the risk assessment process.
The Joint Commission International's healthcare safety objectives; individual and environmental factors that influence safety; definitions of adverse events, errors, near misses, and sentinel events. Risk management. Ministerial safety recommendations.
1. FALL RISK: definition, epidemiological data, intrinsic and extrinsic risk factors, risk assessment tools (scales: TUG, Conley, Morse, Stratify, BBS, Tinetti); when to assess the individual, risk containment and fall prevention tools/interventions. REGIONAL PLAN FOR THE PREVENTION OF PATIENT FALLS. Assessment of autonomy (ADL and IADL scales)
2. RISK OF PRESSURE INJURIES: definition, etiopathogenesis, local and systemic factors, staging, risk assessment and containment tools; prevention interventions.
3. RISK OF HEALTHCARE-ASSOCIATED INFECTIONS (HAI): Definition of HAI, epidemiological data, etiological factors, the chain of infection, modes of infection transmission; containment tools, breaking the chain. Standard precautions, additional precautions for the management of infectious diseases: contact, droplet, airborne: where to place the infected person, PPE to use, transport of the infected person, correct use of medical devices.
Medical and surgical asepsis: definition and procedures; disinfection, general principles relating to the use of detergents, disinfectants, and antiseptics; the sterilization process, phases of preparation of medical devices for sterilization, storage of sterilized material and correct management. Principles of surgical asepsis (preparation and management of a sterile field)
4. HANDWASHING: WHO Guidelines on Hand Hygiene in Healthcare. Implementation of a Multimodal Hand Hygiene Strategy.
5. WASTE DISPOSAL: General waste concepts, waste disposal in healthcare
6. USE OF PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE)
