Course objectives

Upon completion of the course the student must know the theoretical and practical tools to be able to set up and carry forward proper periodontal non-surgical and maintenance therapy that minimizes the risk of infection and periodontal and / or peri-implant reinfection of treated patients. Upon completion of the course the student must provide to do scaling and root planing as well as the topical application of the various prophylactic means

Prerequisites
in order to understand the teaching content and to achieve the learning objectives, at the beginning of the didactic activities foreseen by the didactic module the student must possess the knowledge on the concepts learned during the previous years of course

Teaching mode
The teacher delivers lectures with traditional methods with audiovisual aids and scheduling of lessons as published on the website of the Dental Hygiene School.
Frequency
Following paragraph 5 of the Regulations of the Dental Hygiene School, the student is required to attend educational activities, formal, non-formal, vocational. The frequency is checked by the teachers through signature / updated lists provided by the Academic Office, as established by CCLID. The certificate of mandatory attendance to the teaching course is required to the student to be admitted at the final test.
Exam mode
To pass the exam you must obtain a grade of not less than 18/30 in each module. The student must demonstrate that he has acquired sufficient knowledge of the topics covered in the course, a basic knowledge of the topics covered and be able to set up a treatment plan independently. To achieve a score of 30/30 cum laude, the student must demonstrate that he has acquired excellent knowledge of all the topics covered during the course, being able to link them in a logical and consistent way. An intermediate written exam is scheduled at the end of the introductory course for the final oral exam. A practical simulation of operating procedures is also envisaged.

To provide basic knowledge of dental anatomy and enamel formation; to recognize main non-carious and carious lesions; to understand the mechanisms of prevention and minimally invasive treatment; to acquire skills in oral hygiene procedures and non-surgical periodontal therapy.
