Course objectives

At the end of the course the student must know the principal internal medicine pathologies relative to dental hygiene, in particular the type 2 diabetes and its micro- and macroangiopathic complications. At the end of the course the student must be able to recognize the principal symptoms of the cardiovascular pathologies that can occur even during the professional practice of dental hygiene.

Course program
At the end of the module, the student should be able to: Medical records: collect a complete medical and dental history and perform a basic clinical examination. Rheumatic diseases: describe the main features of rheumatoid arthritis, seronegative spondyloarthropathies, systemic lupus erythematosus, systemic sclerosis, osteoporosis, including the use of antiresorptive drugs and the risk of jaw osteonecrosis, and Paget’s disease. Cardiovascular diseases: recognize and understand the clinical implications of hypertension, arteriosclerosis, and ischemic heart disease.
