Course objectives

Upon completion of the course the student must know the professional and home oral hygiene protocols for patients before, during and after dental surgery and those related to the maintenance of periodontal health in patients with prosthetic and implant products. Upon completion of the course the student must know how to do (under the tutor's guidance) removal of hard and soft deposits, over and under-gingival, with manual and mechanical tools of prosthetic products.

Course program
IMPLANTO-PROSTHESIS AND SURGERY ELEMENTS • general concepts and context (10 hours): head-neck anatomy / dental anatomy, sterility principles, basic non-surgical techniques, principles of periodontology, basic principles of occlusion. • specific study (10 hours): principles of osseointegration, differences between the peri-implant mucosa and dental periodontal, peri-implant disease, prosthetic rehabilitation on implants, protocols oral home care and professional hygiene in the implant and prosthetic patient.
Prerequisites
In order to understand the teaching content and to achieve the learning objectives, at the beginning of the didactic activities foreseen by the didactic module the student must possess the knowledge on the anatomy of the head-neck / dental anatomy, sterility principles, basic non-surgical techniques, principles of periodontology, basic principles of occlusion. Pre-requisites are requested: all first and second year exams.
Frequency
The Regulations of the School, the student is required to attend educational and professional activities. The frequency is checked by the teachers through signature / updated lists provided by the Academic Office, as established by CCL. The certificate of mandatory attendance to the teaching course is required to the student to be admitted at the final test.
Exam mode
To pass the exam you must obtain a grade of not less than 18/30 in each module. The student must demonstrate that he has acquired a basic and sufficient knowledge of the surgical and prosthetic topics and that he is able to exhaustively explain the basic principles of surgical, implant and prosthetic techniques with the related professional and home oral hygiene techniques. To achieve a score of 30/30 cum laude, the student must demonstrate that he has acquired excellent knowledge of all the topics covered during the course, being able to link them in a logical and consistent way. The exam consists in an intermediate written test and a final oral test. The oral test will be based on an overall assessment, taking into account the attendance at the lectures (at least 66% in all the integrated course), active participation, reasoning and autonomous study skills.
Lesson mode
The teacher provides lectures with traditional methods with audiovisual aids and scheduling of lessons as reported on the website of the Dental Hygiene School.
