Architectural technology and innovative materials for interior architecture

Course objectives

The Course aims to provide knowledge related to the technologies and materials used in interior architecture, with particular reference to those of an innovative nature. The notions provided will be used to compare the different technologies and materials in order to highlight their distinctive and critical aspects, in their application both in the field of a new construction and redevelopment of the interiors of a building body, so as to provide students with that wealth of systematized information on the problems posed by the choice of technologies and materials for interior architecture also in relation to the different uses of buildings and user categories. Students will also acquire the skills to be able to read, interpret and formulate a specification that is an integral part of a contract. By the end of the course, students will have developed critical thinking skills and essential abilities to select technologies and materials for interior architecture and to control their implementation.

Course program
The Course is divided into four thematic areas: 1. theoretical lectures on innovative natural and artificial technologies and materials for interior architecture and the professional figures involved in the selection and implementation of interior materials and technologies; 2. theoretical lectures on aspects of choosing technologies and materials for fragile users; 3. practice spaces aimed at reading the characteristics of technologies and materials, through selected case studies; 4. creation of a specification for a project of new construction or redevelopment of a building body with a specific intended use. In the first subject area, the topics covered are: ● technological behavior requirements of interior technologies and materials ● interior partitions: technologies and materials ● flooring technologies and materials ● vertical and horizontal coatings ● materials for indoor comfort and quality management ● material requirements and technologies for fragile users. The second area is a collaborative and dynamic practice space aimed at reading the characteristics of technologies and materials used in selected case studies with the goal of reading their compliance with the identified technological requirements. Contributions from manufacturers of innovative and advanced materials will be integrated. The third subject area relates to the creation of specification items for an ex novo project or redevelopment of a building body with a specific intended use.
