Objectives

The primary objective of the Master’s Degree Program is to provide graduates with the quantitative, economic, and legal knowledge necessary to assume positions of responsibility in the insurance, financial, and pension sectors. The program prepares students for professional roles such as financial analyst, risk manager or chief risk officer, actuary, and data analyst.
The track, offered in both Italian and English, begins with a common foundational phase (first semester of the first year) during which students consolidate their quantitative and economic skills. This foundation enables them to deepen and specialize their knowledge in innovative areas, including applications of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence. To this end, the program includes advanced coursework in mathematics and stochastic processes, alongside competencies in financial intermediaries, with particular focus on accounting standards specific to the banking and actuarial sectors, and core principles of financial market economics and financial econometrics.
Students will then have the opportunity to further specialize in either the finance or insurance curriculum. The program provides expertise in traditional actuarial topics such as the valuation of insurance contracts, as well as in financial instruments—including derivatives—used for risk management planning and control, through the application of quantitative finance models. Particular emphasis is placed on forecasting methodologies and time series analysis techniques suitable for evaluating and managing financial risk, and for designing investment portfolios that hedge insurance and pension liabilities.
The quantitative components of the curriculum are complemented by in-depth study of primary and secondary regulations governing insurance, pension, financial, and banking markets. This includes analysis of best practices in the management of insurance companies, pension and health funds, and financial institutions, with close attention to European regulations and their national implementations.
The knowledge and skills acquired are aimed at preparing graduates for roles such as financial analyst, head of financial functions in financial institutions, risk manager or chief risk officer within the Italian and European financial sectors, professional actuary, head of actuarial functions in insurance companies and pension funds, and risk manager for insurance, pension, or health fund institutions.
The integration of theoretical and applied knowledge is further supported by dedicated laboratory activities and a series of professional seminars led by practitioners active in the program’s core fields. In addition, students are offered curricular internship opportunities with financial and insurance institutions, professional firms, and consulting companies, both in Italy and abroad.
