Presentation
The Master’s Degree in Finance and Insurance (FINASS) offers a highly qualified education in the fields of quantitative finance, insurance, and actuarial science.
The program provides in-depth training in the formulation, application, and interpretation of mathematical and statistical models for the analysis and forecasting of financial, insurance, and pension markets. Students gain expertise in the design and evaluation of innovative financial and insurance products, as well as in the application of quantitative methods for the measurement and management of risk in financial and actuarial contexts.
The curriculum is complemented by courses in law and economics, aimed at integrating robust quantitative training with a comprehensive understanding of the legal and economic frameworks that govern financial and insurance markets. Special emphasis is placed on the acquisition of computational skills through the use of industry-standard software and tools.
In support of students’ professional development, the program organizes seminars and internship opportunities with financial and insurance institutions, consulting firms, and professional practices both in Italy and abroad, thereby fostering connections between academia and the job market.
The program encourages internationalization to enrich students' academic and professional profiles. In addition to student mobility agreements, FINASS maintains a partnership with the ARPM platform, which allows students to participate in the Advanced Risk and Portfolio Management (ARPM) Quant Bootcamp at New York University.
The degree program is structured into three tracks:
- Finance (taught in Italian)
- Insurance (taught in Italian)
- Financial Risk and Data Analysis (taught in English)
The Finance track prepares professionals with the ability to apply quantitative methods for the evaluation and management of complex financial products and financial risk, in line with current domestic and international regulatory frameworks.
The Insurance track aims to train professionals for roles that are in high demand in the labor market, such as actuaries, insurance fund managers, and insurance risk managers.
The Financial Risk and Data Analysis track focuses on developing highly qualified professionals capable of gathering, organizing, and structuring financial data, and applying advanced forecasting methodologies, including multivariate approaches.
Admission is open to graduates with a bachelor's degree in Class L-18 (Economics and Business Management) or L-33 (Economics). Graduates from other degree classes must have earned at least 72 ECTS credits in specific disciplinary fields of the program description (as detailed in Section A3.a).
Students enrolled in FINASS also have the opportunity to earn a Minor in University and Enterprises in Economics, Communication, Finance, and Insurance. The Minor is an optional and complementary track that enhances students’ education with cross-disciplinary skills relevant to both further academic study and employment. Participation requirements and application procedures are outlined in the annual call issued by the Faculty of Economics.
The program also offers an Excellence Pathway designed to support talented students interested in further academic enrichment. Selected students, through a competitive call, are given the opportunity to undertake additional activities alongside the standard curriculum, with a focus on advanced methodological and applied training.
Admission to the Excellence Pathway is by application. Participation criteria and procedures are specified in the annual call published by the Faculty of Economics. Students who complete the pathway successfully within the standard duration of the degree program will receive an official certificate recorded in their academic transcript. Additionally, the university will award a prize equivalent to the amount of tuition fees paid in the final academic year.
The Master’s Degree in Finance and Insurance qualifies graduates to sit for the Italian state exam for professional certification as an actuary. It also provides access to second-level university master’s programs and doctoral studies.
