Physics
Course objectives
The course objective is to provide the basic elements of the general physics and apply them to solve simple problems. The basics of mechanics, dynamics, the concept of energy, fluid statics and dynamics, and thermodynamics will be explained. The basics of electrostatics, circuits and electromagnetism will then be presented.

Course program
The course is divided in three parts equally distributed in the semester:
-Part I: Measurements and units; theory of the errors; hints of Statistics; scalars and vectors; one dimension particle kinematics; two dimensions particle kinematics; first law of dynamics; second and third laws of dynamics; the inclined plane; frictional forces; fundamental forces in physics; work done by a force; kinetic energy; potential energy; energy conservation; momentum; collisions; rotational dynamics; momentum of a force; angular momentum;
-Part II: statics of fluids; Archimedes' principle; dynamics of fluids; Bernoulli's theorem; ideal gas; first law of thermodynamics; thermodynamic processes; second law of thermodynamics; entropy;
-Part III: electrostatics; Coulomb's law; electric field; Gauss' theorem; electric potential; capacitance; current and Ohm's law; RC circuits; magnetism; the Biot-Savart law; Faraday's law and inductance; electromagnetic waves; Maxwell's equations; geometrical optics; images and mirrors; wave optics; interference; diffraction.
Prerequisites
Basic university knowledge of matematics
Books
Principles of Physics, Serway - Jewett, Edises Editions
Teaching mode
The physics course is made of in-classroom theory lessons and exercise solving. During the course, experimental examples are shown including example of falling bodies, angular momentum, electrostatic, fluidodynamics, with continuus interactions between the professor and the students.
Frequency
Frequency is not mandatory but highly advisable
Exam mode
The exam is made of an open answer written (to proove to be able to solve excercises) and oral test (needed to know the theory). Each of the tests accounts for 50% of the final mark. In order to have access to the oral test the student should have got a mark of at least 18 in the written test. The written test has 1-year validity once passed. During the course, 4 elearning quiz are prepared that allow the students to understand their preparation and the the teatcher to stress and repeat unclear concepts.
