Course program
1)Study of the main cardiovascular diseases amenable to a "bioengineering" treatment, such as end-stage heart failure, myocardial infarction, the myocardial disease, congenital and acquired valvular diseases, diseases of the arteries and veins. For each of these pathologies will be described the most modern bioengineering methods applicable, according to the state of art, for their treatment.
2)Experimental applications , preclinical (set-up of experimental animal models) and clinical of stem cells in cardiovascular disease. Stem cells and tissue engineering in cardiac regeneration. Clinical translational of experimental research.
3) Bioengineering cell and tissue engineering in cardiovascular disease: current status and future prospects of clinical application. Prosthetic heart valves, (mechanical, biological), bio-engineering of prosthetic valves and their functional evaluation by means of innovative imaging techniques.
4) Experimental applications (pre-clinical and clinical) of devices supporting organ function. Extracorporeal circulation, future perspectives of clinical application of new circuits and materials for bioengineering interest. Total artificial hearts, devices supporting mono and bi-ventricular heart function, devices pulsed flow, flow-axial pumps, the latest generation of pumps with magnetic levitation.
