Course program
Evolution of the concept of biomaterial and medical devise. Classic biomaterials: essential features and most common applications for therapeutic and cosmetic pourposes. interactions between biomaterials and human tissues. Biomaterials in cardiovascular diseases: vascular and valvular prostheses. Biomaterials and skeletal diseases: joint prostheses and other medical devices. Biomaterials and tissue engineering. Generation and analysis of experimental models to study biomaterials. Biomaterials and stem cells in skeletal tissue regeneration.
Prerequisites
In order to understand the teaching contents and to achieve the learning objectives, at the beginning of the didactic activities foreseen by the didactic module the student must possess the basic knowledge on chemistry, physics, biology, anatomy and human physiology.

Teaching mode
The teacher delivers lectures with traditional methods with audiovisual aids and scheduling of lessons as reported on GOMP Aure/Orari system, published on the website of the School.
Frequency
Following paragraph 5 of the Regulations of the School, the student is required to attend educational activities, formal, non-formal, vocational. The frequency is checked by the teachers through signature / updated lists provided by the Academic Office, as established by CCL. The certificate of mandatory attendance to the teaching course is required to the student to be admitted at the final test.
Exam mode
To pass the exam the student must obtain not less than 18/30 in each module. The student must demonstrate that he/she has acquired sufficient knowledge on the topics covered.
To achieve a score of 30/30 cum laude, the student must instead demonstrate that he/she has acquired excellent knowledge on all the topics covered during the course, being able to link them in a logical and consistent way. The exam consists of an oral test.
