Combustion and treatment plants for liquid and gaseous effluents

Course objectives

The course is focused on the design and construction of pollution control equipment with reference to pollutants in process streams, in detail in flue gas from combustion and in aqueous streams. The aim is the understanding of the pollutants formation phenomena and the design of the equipment for pollutant elimination. Problems regarding the dispersion of pollutants as well as sampling techniques and the involved chemical reactions are also covered. Lectures comprise both theoretical aspects and numerical design applications. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES 5. Basic knowledge: learning and understanding of basic Process Engineering approaches. 6. Applying knowledge and understanding: To use the learned models for resolving real-life problems in energy conversion applications. 7. Making judgement: To understand the most appropriate approach (mathematical and physical) to properly design treatment processes. 8. Communication skill: To present and defend the acquired knowledge during an oral exam.
