Educational objectives

The aim of the course is to provide economic notions necessary for becoming acquainted, analyzing and rationalizing the needs at the root of every project, be it a public or a private one. These must be at the foundation of the intervention plan to be discussed and shared with the client, prior to planning the production process aimed at transforming property into one of greater benefit. The requirements expressed in the intervention plan (through a series of choices of a technical, environmental, financial, economic social and procedural nature) must be translated into a project which, simulating the commissioned building complex or intervention plan, combines production factors and produces the best balance between minimum intervention costs and maximum market value of the final property. To this extent it presents the economic aspects necessary for planning, designing, evaluating, establishing, managing and eventually alienating a property; students will be introduced to the logics and methodology of adaptive expertise. The course will also be teaching the estimation criteria needed towards financial choices entailing both value and convenience, fostering the development of a sustainable intervention plan during the different stages of its life cycle.

Provide students with the basic knowledge to analyse, classify and design the construction elements that define a building organism so that they contribute as a whole to its constitution. So they are, not only consistent with the identification and connotation of spaces, the comfort requirements and those to ensure static safety, but also with the construction activity, its actors, and sustainability

Basic principles will be given in order to understand the meaning of geological processe and consequent geohazards. Different kinds of geohazard will be introduced, focusing on the main significant. During the course will be discussed basic elements about Earth sciences and the importance of space-time factors bearing on hazard assessment. Consequences of geohazards will also be encompassed.

The main objective of this course is to provide students with the
fundamental principles and methods in Applied Geophysics for Civil,
Building and Environmental Engineering applications, with particular
focus on specific problems such as seismic and hydrogeological risks,
pollution, landslides, soil-structure interaction and instability,
groundwater management, geothermal energy, etc.
