General Archivistics
Course objectives
The students will have to develop the basic knowledge of the main theoretical and methodological aspects of the archival discipline, from document management to documentation selection practices, to the activities that accompany archives in the permanent conservation phase; they will also pay attention to the most recent developments in the disciplinary debate and bibliography and to the ethical-social dimension underlying the discipline. The students will therefore have to know how to use the knowledge acquired in arguing and addressing open questions, in implementing study and research methods, and will have to be able to communicate the results of their work both to specialists and to an audience of non-experts in the matter. Finally, the students must have the necessary skills to successfully undertake a future specialist degree course that includes exams in archiving.
