The course unit provides the general lines of documentation in the Latin West, from Late Antiquity to contemporary times. The student: will be able to understand the functions related to the documentation as well as the role played by the written document in the political and institutional history of Europe; will understand the double value (legal instrument / historical source) of documents through the knowledge of their main conservation sites
