COMPUTER SKILLS

Course objectives

The course is intended to provide the students with an advanced knowledge of the PC softwares, of the main issues of digital humanities, of the research tools available on the web. The main topics include the basic knowledge of network, hypertext format, the windows environment and the use of Excel and Powerpoint.

Previous knowledge of digital humanities is not necessary for this course. Basic notions of linguistics, philology, and minimal skills in using a PC (management and saving files) are required.

Frequency
For this course, it is necessary using of laptops during practical exercises in classroom. Texts and slides are made available on google classroom.
Exam mode
The final exam consists of a written test, including: 1) A question on the topics of the course; 2) an exercise of encoding for a short text. The goal is NOT to memorize a set of tags, but to know how to use the documentation of a language (TEI) in a conscious way on a text.
