Oriental languages and civilizations

First Semester: Chinese phonology, Hanyu pinyin romanization; simplified and complex Chinese characters, radicals (1 to 100); elementary grammar, simple sentence structure, word classes, verbs in series, and direction verbs. Second Semester: Radicals (101 to 214); classifiers, modal verbs, adjective predicates, nominal predicates, prepositional constructions, double objects verbs, aspectual and modal particles, localizers, pivotal sentences. During the second semester, will be held specific lesson regarding Chinese-Italian literary translation skills. At the end of the course, the students will be able to carry a simple conversation in Chinese, reaching the Official New Chinese Certification (2021) Level 1, compatible with European Common Framework levels: A.1 – A.2.1

Prior knowledge of the Modern Chinese Language is not required.

The students are strongly suggested to regularly attend classes.

At the end of the second semester will take place a self-assessment test, which should be not considered as a formal examination. The final exam will be composed of a written examination (60/100) and an oral examination, including conversation in Chinese and exercises in Chinese-Italian translations.

Lessons by the Italian teacher (2 hours per week on two semesters) and by the mother tongue Chinese lecturer (4 hours per week in the first semester and 6 hours per week during the second semester, for each of the two groups of students, divided according to family name initials A-L and M-Z).
