CHINESE LANGUAGE AND TRANSLATION III

Course objectives

The course is aimed to improve students’ Chinese language skills: reading comprehension, speaking, spoken and oral comprehension, and writing, and to take the student to an advanced level. At the end of the course, students will be able to conduct a conversation on different topics related to China modern contemporary society and politics; they will be able to read complex texts in Chinese language about Chinese contemporary culture, economy and society; they will also be able to write texts about cultural and social issue of contemporary China; they will be able to reach a C1-C2 level.

Program - Frequency - Exams

Course program
Reading, translation and analysis of texts in advanced Chinese; texts are taken from Chinese newspapers and are related to politics and contemporary China. Analysis and translation techniques of advanced Chinese texts.
Prerequisites
The student must have attended the first two years of Lingua e Traduzione Cinese, or in alternative, to have a Chinese B2 level

Exam mode
During the course, after the first semester, there will be a middle term test. At the end of the course there is a final exam, divided in: written test, composition in Chinese language, written translation of a short Chinese newspaper article, and oral examination, in order to test if the student possess the methodology and the contents given during the course.
Lesson mode
During the first semester, the practice will be mainly focused on the analysis of the phrase structure and on the comprehension of the Chinese text. The teacher invite students reading and translate the texts, after an explanation of the new lexicon and theoretical issue related to the unit object of study. Lessons will be in person, online lessons will be made only under specified circumstances.
