Knowledge of the literary history of the chosen fields in relation to periodization, cultural and ideological contexts, movements, writers, works or genres to initiate the student into a more careful reading of the literary text.

Please register for the course on the Moodle page. https://elearning.uniroma1.it/course/view.php?id=19921 Since the fall of the Berlin Wall (1989) and the end of the European blocs and the Cold War, German-language literature has taken on a special role in welcoming and promoting writers whose origins, writing styles, language and imagery span multiple languages and worlds. It is about migration, but not only. It is a particular opening up of linguistic and cultural horizons that are increasingly important for the acquisition of a critical awareness of the role of linguistic and intercultural mediation. After a theoretical examination of the categories of migration, flight, exile, “refuge” and “Heimat”, we will consider works by German-language authors who engage in intense hybridisation and dialogue with other languages and cultures: Marica Bodrozic, Ann Cotten, Sudabeh Mohafez, Katja Petrowskaja, Yoko Tawada, Feridun Zaimoglu, Peter Waterhouse, and Natascha Wodin.
