Course objectives

Educational Goals: The Korean Studies curriculum has entered into a Double Title agreement with the Korean University Hanyang. Students wishing to take advantage of this opportunity and obtain a double degree in Italy and Korea, are required to attend the second year in Korea. Therefore, the master's degree aims to achieve the student's ability to communicate fluently in Korean language with Korean native speakers (appropriation of academic lexicon), to develop lecture comprehension and academic texts in Korean language. Specific Goals: The Korean Language and Literature two-years course target is to enhance the language skills acquired during the three-years Korean Studies curriculum for the achievement of BA degree. More specifically, it aims to allow the student to accomplish the B2 level of the common European reference framework and to take the TOPIK II Proficiency Test exam to obtain the level 4. Thanks to this intense language training, after MA graduation, the student should have acquired basic tools and skills, suitable for translating and interpreting and for thinking critically in Korean language.

Course program
The course will be taught mainly in Korean, with supplementary use of English.

A Korean language proficiency of B1 or higher is required.

Exam mode
The assessment is designed to holistically evaluate the learner's comprehensive language skills and is divided into a written test and an oral test. 1) Written Test Objective: To comprehensively assess fundamental knowledge of the Korean language (vocabulary, grammar), comprehension (reading), and expression (writing) skills. Content: The test consists of sections on vocabulary and grammar, reading comprehension, composition, and translation (Korean↔Italian). 2) Oral Test Objective: To assess advanced skills in applying and analyzing acquired knowledge in practice. Content: The assessment will be conducted through tasks such as explaining the usage of major grammatical points, providing an in-depth analysis and oral translation of a Korean text, and translating an Italian text into Korean.
Lesson mode
Each unit consists of three specialized class sessions, with each part being organically linked. 1) Knowledge Acquisition (Linguistic Knowledge & Reading Comprehension): In the first session, students learn the core vocabulary and grammatical theories of the unit and develop the ability to precisely comprehend and analyze related texts. 2) Practical Application (Usage & Speaking): The second session focuses on practicing the application of acquired grammar and vocabulary in real-life situations and concentrates on speaking activities to improve fluency. 3) Skill Integration (Translation, Listening & Writing): In the third session, students enhance their precision of expression through translation and undergo an integration process to fully internalize the learned material through listening and writing activities.
