Course objectives

Main teaching objectives: • To have acquired the knowledge essential for the pharmacodynamic effects of the classes of drugs in relation to the mechanism of action, and to the adverse effects. • To have acquired the knowledge essential for making a reasoned choice of drugs in relation to pathological conditions. • Be aware of the possible influence of individual factors and of concomitant medication on pharmacological and / or therapeutic effect and of the risk-benefit ratio of drug therapy.

Cardiovascular System Drugs: Antihypertensives, Antianginal agents, Drugs for the treatment of heart failure, Antiarrhythmics, Lipid-lowering agents, Antiplatelet drugs, Anticoagulants, Fibrinolytics, Diuretics. Neuropsychopharmacology: Antiparkinsonian drugs: L-DOPA, dopamine agonists, central anticholinergics, Anticonvulsant and antiepileptic drugs, Typical and atypical antipsychotics, Sedative-hypnotic agents. Antidepressants: Tricyclic antidepressants, Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), Serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), Norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors, Noradrenergic and specifically serotonergic antidepressants, Atypical antidepressants. Mood stabilizers. Central analgesics. Antimigraine drugs. General and local anesthetics. Overview of substance use disorders.
