GEOLOGICAL DETECTION INTERNSHIP
Course objectives
The student will learn how to plan and perform a geological field mapping project, following the official National Geological Survey guidelines, producing a geological map on the 1:10.000 scale, complete with geological cross-sections, legend, and explanatory notes, in a geologically complex mountain-chain area.

Course program
A training field camp will be held in the Umbria-Marche Apennines during the first half of June (1 week), where the concepts and know-how acquired with Rilevamento Geologico will find their practical application. The last day of the camp will be devoted to drawing a geological map, with cross-sections, while a week will be allowed for drafting the explanatory notes accompanying the map.
Prerequisites
Students should be familiar with the dedicated field techniques and subjects taught in Geological Mapping (essential), Geology 1 & 2, Paleontology, and Petrography classes. The student must have taken part in at least 4 out of 6 one-day field exercises held during the course of Rilevamento Geologico.

Hands-on, field training,with daily evaluation and discussion of advancement stages. Students will be asked to form teams of 4/3 in order to produce a geological map of the area (6 sq km's) that will be assigned to each team.

Exam mode
Admission to the (oral) exam is subject to passing Rilevamento Geologico. The exam will be centered on a discussion of the map, geological cross-sections, and accompanying essay. The student receives a formal “validation of skills”
