Genetics and Molecular Biology

The course is aimed at providing the basic knowledge on the molecular mechanisms controlling the biosynthesis and maturation of RNA molecules and how these processes can be modulated in gene expression control. Specific emphasis will be given to those inherited and acquired genetic disorders where deregulated RNA maturation occurs. Moreover, attention will be devoted to the acquisition of skills relating to the evolution and function of the non coding portion of the genome. Emphasis will be given to the so-called "transversal knowledge" regarding the interdisciplinary approaches necessary for the advanced study of molecular biology.
