Degree programme choice orientation
The SOrT is Sapienza's integrated orientation service. The service has a central office in the University Campus and offices located at each Faculty. At the SOrT, students can find more specific information about the Faculties and their programs, as well as support in making their choices. The central office and faculty professors coordinate incoming orientation and tutoring projects and provide information on the program offerings and administrative procedures for program admission.
Orientation initiatives and projects:
1. "Open Doors at Sapienza."
This initiative, held annually at the University Campus, is the most important event dedicated to new students and beyond: during the three orientation days, students can meet professors and other students, receive information, and attend conferences in the Aula Magna presenting the program offerings of all the University's faculties. The initiative is aimed at all those intending to enroll in Sapienza's Bachelor's, Single-Cycle Master's, and Master's Degree programs, with a particular focus on students in their final years of secondary schools. The event offers all stakeholders an opportunity to learn about Sapienza, its educational offerings, its places of study, culture, and meeting places, and the many services available to students (libraries and study rooms, museums, university residences, sports facilities, and the University theater). In addition to information on teaching, during meetings and at the Faculty stands along the University's avenues, as well as at virtual stands, students can obtain information on the administrative process, both general and, more specifically, on the enrollment procedures for the various degree programs, and acquire specific information on the calls for admission to the courses.
Furthermore, to foster the development of inclusive environments and access to university education, the Department for Relations with Students with Disabilities and Learning Disabilities (DSA) promotes discussion spaces for career management through personalized and individualized study plans, including the activation of educational, financial, and/or logistical support available for vulnerable students. Finally, the Department guides students on the procedures for requesting support, including the clinical certifications required.
2. Sapienza Orientation Portal.
To assist in choosing a degree program, the University has created an online portal (https://orientamento.uniroma1.it/index.html) that provides an immersive and advance experience of university life: navigable images and videos of the campus, classrooms, laboratories, libraries, theater, and music and sports spaces; online access to learning modules on the main course topics; Evaluate and improve your preparation for entrance or knowledge assessment tests.
Furthermore, the portal is the main point of contact for information on orientation events that the various Faculties and Departments plan throughout the year. It hosts videos presenting the Faculties, Bachelor's Degree programs, Single-Cycle Master's Degree programs, and Master's Degree programs, particularly those recently launched. All orientation initiatives are promoted on the University's social media channels to capture the attention of potentially interested students.
3. Self-assessment tools (developed by Sapienza experts and scientifically tested).
a. "Know Thyself": Effective in guiding the decision-making process for choosing a course of study. Once completed, the tool provides a personality profile, an academic profile, and a professional profile.
b. "Me, Myself, and Others": Allows you to measure soft skills, i.e., the aptitudes relevant to integrating into society and the world of work.
4. "Orientation Events".
https://www.uniroma1.it/it/node/347362 contains a chronological list of all orientation events organized by the University, its Faculties, Departments, and CAD/CdS.
The University supports students with disabilities and learning disabilities in the delicate and crucial process of orientation, assessment, and entry selection.
The "Students with Disabilities and Learning Disabilities Sector" evaluates the individualized methods for completing the entrance exams, taking into account the certifications submitted by students.
For enrollment in local or national limited-access programs requiring a selective entrance exam, individuals with disabilities may request a series of compensatory measures (e.g., a dedicated classroom; additional time; a tutor; an accompanying tutor; a sign language interpreter; a calculator) following the application procedures indicated in the program admission notices.
Finally, the "Students with Disabilities and Learning Disabilities Sector," with the support of specialized tutors, peer tutors, and sign language interpreters, handles the reception of those enrolling at Sapienza who find themselves in a vulnerable situation.
***Degree Activities***
The Faculty of Mathematical, Physical, and Natural Sciences organizes annual presentation meetings for the LM-75 program, typically between May and June, for third-year students of interested undergraduate programs. LM-75 graduates currently working in the field are invited to this meeting to share their experiences.
All students interested in enrolling can also contact the Sort Office, using the contact information provided on the Degree Program website and on the Faculty and Sort pages.
Finally, the Sapienza Orientation Portal (also in English) offers an immersive and preview experience of university life through videos and photos of the facilities, including the Degree Program presentation video: https://youtu.be/x00UQqIUE30.
Starting in 2024, the Faculty will organize an annual online event in May to present all the master's degree programs, with a focus on career prospects.
The schedule of these events is designed to maximize participation by second- and third-year students of all bachelor's degrees.
