Enza Roberta Petrillo
Adjunct Professor in Population and Development (Sapienza University of Rome). With nearly 20 years of professional experience, she specializes in migration policy, geopolitics, and the protection of vulnerable populations, including forced migrants, children on the move, and survivors of human trafficking. She holds a Ph.D. in Development Geography and an honors degree in Political Science, combining academic background with advanced experience as a practitioner in the humanitarian field. Throughout her career, she has developed expertise in refugee and forced migration studies, employing theoretical and empirical research to analyze and address the complex challenges faced by displaced populations along various migration routes, including the Central Mediterranean and Western Balkans. This expertise is complemented by a deep understanding of the political and geopolitical dynamics shaping global migration patterns. Her professional experience includes policy analysis, evidence-based research, and the design of innovative strategies to address the protection needs of migrants and refugees. She has collaborated with academic institutions, international organizations, EU agencies, NGOs, think tanks, and governmental bodies. She has led the design and implementation of humanitarian programs, capacity-building initiatives, and system-strengthening projects. As a participant in expert and academic networks on migration and asylum, she promotes multi-stakeholder collaboration and shares innovative practices at national, EU, and international levels. Through her work, she contributed to scholarly and policy-oriented publications, and engaged with key stakeholders to strengthen protective responses to migrant and refugee emergencies while advancing policy discussions on migration and displacement. Her contributions extend to academic and think tank publications, where she shares insights and analysis on critical migration issues.
