Curriculum
Professor of Structural Design and Earthquake Engineering at Sapienza University of Rome, holding an MSc from UC Berkeley and a PhD from Sapienza. His research and consulting activities range from the seismic safety of new and existing structures to the risk and resilience of structural and infrastructural (networked) systems. Actively involved in code-drafting activities at the international level (fib Model Code 2020, second-generation structural Eurocodes) and national level (new Italian Building Code).
His expertise and research encompass earthquake engineering, structural safety, and the analysis of risk and resilience in structural and infrastructural systems. He specializes in the seismic design and assessment of bridges and buildings, incorporating soil-structure interaction and non-structural elements. Additionally, he focuses on modeling civil networked systems (transportation, energy, water) to evaluate regional seismic resilience, as well as on reliability-based code calibration. His work in these fields has been supported by grants from the EU and the Italian Civil Protection Department.
