The scientific method and research: principles and methodologies. Evidence-based medicine and clinical practice. Evidence-based physiotherapy and rehabilitation. Decision-making processes and clinical reasoning. Formulating clinical questions and the PICO rule. Databases: Google Scholar, PubMed, Embase, PEDro, Cinhal, PsycINFO, Eric, Cochrane, and metadatabases. Search strategies and choice of search terms. Types of clinical studies: descriptive, observational, and experimental. Secondary research studies: guidelines, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses. Statistical significance and clinical relevance of a study. Sources of bias and systematic errors. Methodological and reporting quality of clinical studies. Evaluation checklists: Jadad score, PEDro score, Cochrane risk of bias, Consort, Strobe Statement, CARE reporting, PRISMA Statement, Clinical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP). Principles and fields of application of qualitative research: interviews, focus groups, participant observation, grounding theory, ethnographic research. Designing, completing, and validating cognitive and evaluative questionnaires. Designing scientific posters and presentations. Guidelines for writing scientific articles and abstracts. Guidelines for writing dissertations.
