International experiences
Sapienza University offers numerous opportunities for study, research, and internships abroad: both within Europe and outside of Europe, for short stays or longer periods, including thesis work abroad and much more.
Study periods in European countries: Erasmus+
Erasmus+ promotes transnational cooperation activities among higher education institutions; it funds mobility for study purposes (SMS) across all disciplines and levels of study (including doctoral programs) and supports the academic recognition of studies within the European Higher Education Area. The Erasmus+ program allows students to attend courses and take exams, fully recognized in their academic transcript, or to conduct research for the preparation of their bachelor's or doctoral thesis.

Traineeships in European Countries: Erasmus+ Traineeship
The Erasmus+ traineeship mobility allows students to undertake internships at companies, training centers, and research institutions located in one of the participating countries. The program enables full-time internships abroad, recognized as an integral part of the study program. The traineeship can also be carried out after graduation, provided that the selection takes place before obtaining the degree. The number of months of traineeship mobility is added to the months of Erasmus study periods, up to the maximum allowed by the program.

Study Periods in Non-EU Countries: Overseas Program
Thanks to funds provided by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) and Sapienza’s own contributions, every year Sapienza offers the opportunity to spend a study period—either to take exams or conduct thesis research—at one of over 200 non-EU institutions with which it has active bilateral agreements.
The Overseas mobility program provides a monthly allowance of €700 net for the first 5 months and €500 net starting from the 6th month onward. The continuous stay abroad cannot be less than 90 days and can last a maximum of 2 consecutive semesters. The allowance can only be used once per study cycle and cannot be combined with other Sapienza grants.

Study or Research Periods in Non-EU Countries: Erasmus+ KA171 International Credit Mobility (ICM) Program
The Erasmus+ ICM program, funded by the European Commission, allows students and faculty members to spend a period of study/research for thesis or teaching/training in non-EU countries. The program provides a scholarship and covers travel expenses. All activities undertaken abroad will be recognized upon return by the relevant Sapienza faculty members, as established in the Learning Agreement.
Student mobility can last from a minimum of 3 up to 6 months (which can be extended up to a maximum of 12 months, with the last 6 months without a scholarship—Zero-EU Grant mode). The ICM scholarship also covers doctoral-level research mobility for the same duration. Travel expenses are calculated using the Distance Calculator based on the distance between the home university city and the host university city.
