PROGRAM OF THE EPIDEMIOLOGY COURSE (Prof. Antonio Carraturo) • Objectives and brief history of epidemiology • Measures of frequency of illness (prevalence and incidence) • Association measures (attributable risk, relative risk, Odds Ratio) • Classification and design of epidemiological studies • Bias and confounding • From the sample to the population: principles of statistical inference (intervals of confidence and test) • Diagnostic and screening tests: sensitivity, specificity, predictive value • Population screening • Elements of epidemiology of infectious and chronic-degenerative diseases
Prerequisites
Thorough knowledge of the subjects of the first and second year of studies, in particular; biology, general pathology, medical statistics

Teaching mode
The course takes place with lectures, with slide projection, in which students are required a continuous interaction by favoring questions on the topics discussed during the lesson.
Exam mode
Written test (multiple choice). To Pass the test student must obtain a note of 18/30 for each subject of the integrated teach. Student must possess a sufficient knowledge of the program. The mean of the scores of each module will be calculated to give an overall evaluation of the learning. To obtain a note of 30/30 with distinction student must possess an excellent knowledge of the whole program using a correct terminology to expose the topics
