Course program
Etiology and pathogenesis. Concept of health and disease. Adaptive responses to cell damage: hypertrophy, hyperplasia, atrophy. Cell damage and death. Physical agents as the cause of disease. Exciting and ionizing radiations: classification and effects on matter. Thermal energy transfer pathologies: local and general action of high and low temperatures. Chemical agents as the cause of disease. Environmental pollution. Asbestos. Radon. Body defenses against etiological agents of diseases: innate response, acute and chronic inflammation, immune response. Healing. Pathophysiology of fever.
Prerequisites
In order to understand the teaching contents and achieve the learning objectives, at the beginning of the didactic activities foreseen by the didactic module the student must possess basic knowledge relating to biology, chemistry and biochemistry.

The exam will take place traditionally
Frequency
The attendance is mandatory. The student can take the exam if he reaches 67% of the total number of admissions.
Exam mode
The assessment of knowledge will be verified through an oral interview, during which the candidate must demonstrate that he has acquired the knowledge and ability to critically interpret the topics and problems taken into consideration during the course. To pass the exam it is necessary to achieve a score of no less than 18/30. To achieve a score of 30/30 cum laude, the student must demonstrate that he has acquired excellent knowledge of all the topics covered during the course, being able to connect them in a logical and coherent way, explaining the topics clearly and with appropriate terminology.
