Course objectives

The course aims to provide knowledge of basic periodontology, deepening the issues related to anatomy, pathophysiology and periodontal diagnostics. At the end of the course the student must know the anatomy of the periodontium, the etiology of the periodontal disease and the modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors involved in its etiopathogenesis. The student must demonstrate knowledge of the general principles of the diagnosis of periodontal disease and the clinical signs of recognition of the disease. The student must also know the microbiology of the oral cavity and the processes of bacterial plaque formation; must know and be able to compile a periodontal folder. At the end of the course, the student must be able to recognize and interpret the signs of the gingival pathology, intercept the possible modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors, and set up a correct treatment plan.
