Course program
The course introduces students to the fundamental concepts of general psychology and to the main mental and behavioural processes relevant to healthcare practice and patient interaction in audiological settings. Particular attention is given to the cognitive, emotional, and relational factors that influence perception, communication, and adherence to diagnostic and therapeutic pathways. Main Topics Origins, methods, and fields of scientific psychology. Basic cognitive processes: perception, attention, memory, learning, language, and thinking. Emotions and motivation: psychological implications for health and illness. Interpersonal communication and the healthcare professional–patient relationship. Elements of auditory perception and language psychology. Stress, anxiety, and coping strategies in clinical contexts. Psychological aspects of sensory disability and adaptation to hearing aids. Introduction to health psychology and health-related behaviours. The course combines lectures, discussions, and case analyses to foster awareness of the psychological dimensions involved in audiometric professional practice.
