Biomedical Laboratory techniques

IIn the first year of the course, the internship has as its specific objective the inclusion of the student in the laboratory, knowledge of the organizational, management and safety aspects. The student is also introduced to the acquisition of the general manual skills of the biomedical laboratory technician and to the knowledge of the preparatory, diagnostic and research activities carried out in the laboratories. The internship activities are carried out under the didactic direction of a Tutor according to a specific program drawn up by him. At the end of the first year of internship, the student must: • be able to carry out the main laboratory activities starting from the pre-analytical phase: sample acceptance, verification of the suitability of the biological material and the compliance of the request, sampling and distribution in the various lines of work; • knowing how to deal with and resolve all non-conformities found in each specific sector of the laboratory in which the internship was carried out, draw up any non-conformities and initiate the related corrective actions; • prepare a solution with a known title (liquid / liquid or solid / liquid); prepare a buffer solution and perform measurements of pH; perform simple and scalar dilutions. • knowing how to apply sterilization procedures; • know the criteria for proper waste disposal; • comply with the provisions of Legislative Decree no. 81 of 9 April 2008, therefore use the personal protective equipment and equipment correctly adopt appropriate behaviors to safeguard their own and others' safety.

In order to be able to attend the internship at the analysis laboratories of the Policlinico Umberto I, students must comply with the prerequisites required for the year of the course.

During the first year, students must attend the clinical analysis laboratories present within the Umberto I Polyclinic and La Sapienza University, according to the shifts assigned to them, in order to reach a frequency of 375 hours.

The internship exam takes place in the presence of a commission made up of 4 tutors who followed the student during the practical training in the laboratories and the didactic director, the mark out of thirty is assigned through an overall evaluation of the internship period and with a final exam both oral than I practice.
