Course objectives

The business seminar includes didactic activity and technical practice aims to provide additional tools for understanding the links between environment and health, the main methods of prevention and environmental regulations with respect to the accreditation of laboratories, methods of control and legal limits.

Course program
Longevity epidemiology. Functional decay across the life span. Sedentary lifestyle, motor inactivity and poor physical fitness as independent risk factors of chronic low-grade inflammation in the elderly. Functional evaluation of the components of physical fitness. METS. Heart rate measurement for assessing exercise intensity. Evaluation of energy expenditure by indirect methods (IPAQ questionnaires) and through oxygen uptake measurement (indirect calorimetry). Exercise prescription for health. The risk of falls and its prevention.
Prerequisites
Energy Metabolism and physical exercise. Energy balance. Overall design of the cardiovascular system: the Fick Principle. Adjustments and Adaptations for cardiovascular, respiratory and metabolic exercise. Maximal oxygen uptake. Quantifying the intensity of the exercise. Metabolic equivalent of tasks (MET). Components of physical fitness. Beneficial effects of an active lifestyle. Pathological effects of sedentariness. The elements of the exercise prescription: frequency, intensity, type and time (the FITT model).
