Introduction to diagnostic imaging and radioprotection Overview of the equipment used in diagnostic imaging. Main diagnostic imaging techniques and their most common clinical applications: X-ray, angiography, CT, MRI, ultrasound, scintigraphy, SPECT, PET. General overview of ionizing radiation and its biological effects. Radiopharmaceuticals and radioisotopes: the main goal of these lectures is to introduce the concept of radiopharmaceuticals. General information on contrast agents and allergic reactions in CT and MRI. Basic principles of radioprotection and legislation. Role of the nurse in Radiology and Nuclear Medicine. The theoretical lectures are complemented by practical exercises. Course content: X-ray, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, SPECT, and PET: description of equipment operation and image formation mechanisms. Concepts of legislation and radioprotection for patients and healthcare workers, with particular focus on radiology and nuclear medicine settings.
