Course program
The Clinical Pathology laboratory, history and general aspects. The different branches and diagnostic specializations of the laboratory such as clinical chemistry, serology, hematology, clinical microbiology, genetics and immunohaematology. Understanding the concept of analytical reproducibility, quality control and analytical error. Pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical work phases. Blood count, blood cells and their meaning in normal and pathological conditions. Coagulation. Plasma proteins and interpretation of electrophoretic diagrams. The lipid profile: the normal and pathological analytical values and the role of international guidelines. The hepatic functional profile. The renal functional profile. Laboratory tests in emergency. The meaning of check up and the role of point of care testing in clinical pathology.
Prerequisites
The prerequisites are knowledge of the basics of pathophysiology and general pathology.
